Helicopter Hangars, Shop and MAG Headquarters

Helicopter hangars, shop and support space streamlined maintenance and administration operations for Corps squadrons.

Aircraft squadrons maintain operations 24 hours per day, seven days per week. As part of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) move, HMH-772 relocated 11 CH-53E aircraft, while HMLA -775 Detachment A relocated seven AH-1W and four UH-1N aircraft to Fort Dix, NJ. This new consolidated facility for the U.S. Marines HMH-772 Squadron, Marine Aircraft Group Headquarters (MAG-49 HQ) and the U.S. Marines HMLA-775 created a strong sense of identity for each of the user groups while delivering a highly functional and extremely efficient environment.

The design enclosed 119,147 SF and included both Type I and Type II maintenance helicopter hangars, fulfilling critical maintenance hangar requirements for both squadrons/detachments. This facility not only met user needs, but established a highly responsive environment that is designed to the government’s standards.

Central to the project was a two-story shop and administration space. Circulation and access between floors, to adjacent spaces, and to the hangar bays were highly convenient to staff. This increased efficiency and allowed for better performance. Additional support spaces, including a warehouse, storage and GSE shops, were attached to the main building which resulted in a compact facility layout as well as apron parking for 16 helicopters and parking for 180 private vehicles.
